Before I start with the review, I wanna share the story I have with the band. You can say it’s a “Behind The Scene” for you.
They played a show, I think 27th of August 2012, at the Komplex in Zurich. First, I didn’t want to go to the show because I didn’t like the music and didn’t know the guys around Mark Foster that much. But I was pulled to the concert by a friend of mine, A. I started tweeting with her approximately 1 year before the concert took place and we wanted to meet. Luckily she had a day off and we combined our first meeting with the concert in Zurich. :) Sadly she had to drive home straight after the concert ended.
So back to Foster and his guys. I knew “Pumped Up Kicks” (who doesn’t) so I was curious and thought “Surprise me”. I have to say at first I was shocked because off all the screaming teens. A and I were probably the oldest people at the venue. :D But the concert was really good and I liked the music as well. But the thing I will never ever forget and it gets some crazy laughing attacks out of A and me is: Mister Mark Foster fell down the stage. Why? I don’t know because I was chatting and he suddenly lay there in front of our feet. It was hilarious *lol*
Meanwhile it’s been 1,5 years ago and my friend A has totally infected me with Foster The People. I got constantly updates about the band. Like new videos or the release date for the first single out of their sophomore album. Thanks to our best friend “Whatsapp”.
I was eager to know how the new stuff will sound and I really hoped that with the new stuff, Mark and the guys made some changes. I like the songs from the first record, but I was really hoping that they change from the fast electronic beats to some smoother and slower songs. AND they didn’t disappoint me.
“Fire Escape”
My favorite song on “Supermodel”. I heard the song for the first time last summer and had a connection to it from the start. This song touches me so deeply and I really get emotional while listening to it. What I really like about the song, is that Mark sings it with his beautiful voice and just almost accompanied with a guitar. No heavy beats and bass lines, just pureness.
“The Truth”
The truth is sometimes hard to get. I thinks it’s really interesting what Mark did with the song. The shift between his high head voice and his deep voice ( I think he didn’t done that before) is really fascinating. I really dig the song although the beginning is confusing. And as some of you may know, Mark didn’t want to put it on the record in the first place, because the song is so personal to him. But his band mates convinced him that this song should be on the record.
“A Beginner’s Guide To Destroying The Moon”
I have to say, I had my difficulties with this song. Psycho interludes are not really my cup of tea, but the more I listen to this track the more it grows on me. Especially the chorus is really nice and that’s the main reason why I like the song.
“Best Friend”
What can I say: let’s dance! Trumpets, happy melody and a chorus you want to sing along.
“Nevermind”
My second favorite song on the record. I think the Spanish Guitar did it. I like the whole picture of it, melody, singing, it’s a song to lie down on the green grass on a sunny day and to just enjoy everything.
“Coming Of Age”
The first single of the record. Not much to say about this song, because I think it was everything said before. Side note in reference to the “Time-Lapse-Mural-Video”: the idea with the mural in Downtown LA is amazing. I hope to see it personally one day.
“Are You What You Want To Be”
The record opener. You just want to dance and jump immediately with the African influenced melody.
All in all Foster The People isn’t that noisy and electronic as they were with their first record “Torches”. “Pseudologia Fantastica” is probably the weirdest track on the “Supermodel”. But what I think you should ask yourself (haha track reference): Should you just throw a record into one box? My answer is a hell no. Because you can’t put “Supermodel” into one labeled box. I highly recommend you to listen to it. But don’t let yourself trick into a specific mood because of the melodies, listen to the lyrics as well.
I had so much fun listening and I just want to dance and jump every time. So go on Spotify, on iTunes, your favorite record dealer, whatever, but give it a listen. You won’t regret it.

Bester Song: Fire Escape

Danke an unseren besten Freund "Whatsapp". :)
"The Truth"
"A Beginner's Guide to Destroying the Moon"
"Best Friend"
Was soll ich sagen ausser: los tanzt!
"Coming of Age"
"Are You What You Want To Be"
Also geht zu
